Iran, fury on Klinsmann: “Shame on you, resign”
Tehran Federation furious over some comments by former US ct.
Very harsh attack by Iran against former U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann. The former Inter Milan striker, now a member of the Fifa technical committee, in an interview with the BBC indulged in a very harsh criticism of the Middle Eastern selection, accusing it of conditioning the refereeing team during the match against Wales at the World Cup in Qatar: “This is their culture and this is the way they function, and that’s why Queiroz fits the Iranian team very well.”
Iran’s response was not long in coming. The federation demanded the former player’s immediate resignation from the technical committee: “The Iranian Football Federation has already asked FIFA for immediate clarification on the matter, requesting that Mr. Klinsmann apologize and resign from his duties as a member of FIFA’s technical study group. At the same time, the Iranian national team invites Coach Klinsmann to visit Team Melli Camp in Doha for a lecture on ancient Persian culture and the values of soccer and sports.”
Thus coach Queiroz: “As much as I can respect what you did on the field, those comments about Iranian culture, the Iranian national team and my players are a disgrace.”
