Qatar 2022, Group D: France and Australia pass.

France first and Australia second: these are the two national teams promoted at the end of the Qatar 2022 Group D competitions.

Australia legitimized their passage to the round with a 1-0 victory over Denmark: the Danes were mocked in the 60th minute by Mathew Leckie, who was good at getting Maehle drunk with a couple of feints in the penalty area and beating Schmeichel with a precise diagonal pass. The pressure until the triple whistle, combined with ample ball-possession dominance, brought no results for a Denmark side that finished in last place in a group in which it was given as favorites for at least second place.

In the other match, a pointless but still prestigious victory for Tunisia, which beat France 1-0 with a decisive goal by Wahbi Khazri in the 58th minute. The match ended with a controversial situation following the goal signed in the 98th minute by Griezmann: referee Conger, after on-field review, saw an offside by the same Atletico Madrid player at the start of the action, calling his position active and triggering French protests. The knockout, however, was painless: in fact, France finished with the same points as Australia, 6, but a better goal difference (+3 vs. -1), finishing top of the group.
