Portugal chaos, Cristiano Ronaldo’s escape denied: ‘He doesn’t want to leave the retreat’
More chaos around Cristiano Ronaldo: rumors say he threatened to leave the Qatar retreat
Here comes another chapter in Cristiano Ronaldo’s turbulent World Cup: according to reports in the Lusitanian sports dailies A Bola and Record, CR7 allegedly threatened to leave the Portugal national team’s training camp after a very heated conversation with coach Fernando Santos.
The tense face-to-face allegedly took place before the round of 16 against Switzerland, when Ronaldo learned that he would not be a starter.
The Portuguese Football Federation was quick to deny “the news spread this Wednesday, reporting that Cristiano Ronaldo threatened to leave the national team during a conversation with coach Fernando Santos. Ronaldo builds a unique resume every day in the service of the national team and the country, which should be respected and which attests to the unquestionable degree of commitment to the national team. The national team – players, coaches and FPF structure – is, as it has been from day one, fully committed and enthusiastic in building what the country wants to be Portugal’s best ever participation in a World Cup.”
Portugal will return to the field Saturday for the quarterfinal against Morocco.
