Serie A, from January breakthrough on offside: official
The announcement by the president of the Lega Serie A, Lorenzo Casini, has arrived.
The president of the Lega Serie A, Lorenzo Casini, at the microphones of Rai Italia announced that from January the Italian top league will use the semi-automatic offside: “We are ready to apply, also in Italy as in the World Cup, the semi-automatic offside already from the resumption of the championship next January 4.”
The technology, implemented at the World Cup and already tested offline in the Champions League and Super Cup, is based on the installation of 12 extra cameras necessary for the system to work. The technology makes it possible to track the position of all players on the field, with a frequency of 36 frames per second: it will be able to position players and the ball at all times in such a way as to identify an offside player at the exact moment when that position is active.
The margin of error will be close to zero, with a discrepancy of 5 centimeters at most. Offside will in any case remain semi-automatic, especially with regard to the question of active and passive offside, on which the referee will always be the judge.
According to Dazn expert Luca Marelli, the number of goals cancelled for offside by a few centimeters could increase.
