F1, Toto Wolff at Ferrari: here’s when and how it could happen
A career in motorsport that could have been very different, but only under certain conditions.
Toto Wolff in Ferrari as team principal instead of Mattia Binotto is one of the hypotheses that ever circulated, in these very delicate weeks in Maranello. The reason is quickly said: a farewell of the Austrian manager to Mercedes is almost impossible, given his role as shareholder and even CEO of the Anglo-German team. The situation, however, could have gone very differently.
This is confirmed by the person directly concerned, who framed the situation being experienced at Ferrari by speaking to the official Formula 1 channels, in particular by participating in the ‘Beyond The Grid’ podcast. “If anyone says they are not interested in the role of team principal at Ferrari, know that they are not telling the truth,” Toto Wolff stated without mincing words.
“Even now I have to pinch myself, because the fact that I am team principal and co-owner of Mercedes still seems incredible to me. I’m enormously proud of it. But if by some miracle it had been Ferrari that offered me this kind of job, I would have gone there and tried the same things,” Wolff added. That he could then have arrived at the Cavallino, but only and exclusively by 2012. That is, before he started his adventure in Mercedes.
