Pallacanestro Reggiana announced that it has signed until the end of the 2022/2023 sports season US athlete Ruben R “RJ” Nembhard Jr.

Play/guard class of 1999, RJ Nembhard came out of Texas Christian University, located in Fort Worth, in 2021. In September of that year he began his professional career in the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers, a franchise with which he made 14 appearances. His U.S. experience then continued in the G-League with the Cleveland Charge where, this past season, he finished with a 21.8-point, 8.1-rebound and 5.4-assist average. In the first phase of this year Nembhard remained in the G-League with the Motor City Cruise, producing 12 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists on average in the ten games played.

Sports DNA is a constant in his family: his father, Ruben Nembhard, was a professional player in both the NBA and Europe in the late 1990s and early 2000s; his grandfather Joe Beauchamp was a professional for 10 seasons in the NFL (American Football); and his sister Jayden plays volleyball at Long Beach State.

Sporting director of the Emilian club Filippo Barozzi commented on the new acquisition as follows, “With the signing of RJ Nembhard we fill a structural void that had been created for a few games within the team and we add to our roster an athlete with talent and physicality. RJ is a combo guard with the distinct ability to create advantages for himself and others, a trait we feel is very important at this time, but who also does not disdain the defensive aspect of the game. Together with Coach Sakota, we felt, among all the profiles we examined, that his technical and character traits were the right ones to help our group pick up in this difficult time.”

RJ Nembhard said his first words as an Red and White player: “I am really grateful to the club and excited to have this opportunity: I can’t wait to get to the city and work hard to help the team win as many victories as possible. I want to get to know the biancorossa family, the organization, the fans and the Italian culture. I am in love with the game of basketball: I will bring energy and competitiveness. See you soon!”
