The touching tribute to Pelé

Conmebol is considering a touching tribute for Pelé, Brazil legend, who is currently hospitalized in São Paulo with a lung infection. The South American confederation’s idea is to replace three of the five stars on the Seleçao’s coat of arms with three hearts, aimed at recalling the three World Cups won by Pelé. In fact, O’Rei is the only soccer player in history to have graduated as World Champion three times (in 1958, 1962 and 1970).

Conmebol president Alejandro Dominguez spoke this way during the event held in Qatar in honor of the Brazilian legend: “We want to send all the strength and all the support to Pelé and his family and for him to recover as soon as possible. Pelé was a soccer genius, the pioneer of his role. With him the first concept related to the number 10 was born. From there then everything began, including â the comparisons. But Pelé will always be incomparable.

We are talking about an absolute champion who will always be in the hearts of people who love soccer. Pelé is still among us, and he is here at this World Cup. To honor him, we want to take the opportunity to propose to the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) to change three of the five stars he wears on his shield for three hearts in tribute to O’Rei the only soccer star in the history of soccer to succeed in winning the title of World Champion three times,” Dominguez concluded.
