Rafa Nadal picks up Roger Federer’s legacy and makes a promise
Rafa Nadal sends a message to his fans
After 19 years of unchallenged dominance, Roger Federer cedes the scepter of “most beloved by fans” to Rafa Nadal: the ATP Fans’ Favorite Award, an award given by the professional circuit based on fan votes, went for the first time to the Spanish champion, who succeeds in the honor roll precisely to King Roger, who retired last September – after a legendary career – precisely by playing doubles with Nadal at the Laver Cup. Federer has won the Fans’ Favorite Award every year from 2003 to 2021.
“I’m very happy to receive this award, it’s a special feeling,” Nadal said in a video posted on the ATP’s social profiles. “I can’t thank you enough for all the support: not only for this recognition, but also for all the affection I’ve received in every single city that has welcomed me over the years.
After the thanks, a promise for 2023: “I look forward to the new season, I want to share with you many more successes,” Nadal said.
