Carlos Alcaraz: Marco Cecchinato’s illustrious comparison
Marco Cecchinato had the honor of training with world number one Carlos Alcaraz at the Juan Carlos Ferrero Academy in Villena. The Palermo tennis player made some statements to Gazzetta dello Sport in which he talked about the world number one.
“My team and I have started working in Spain to prepare for next season because many players train between Valencia and Alicante,” explained the Italian. “I have been training well with Carlos [Alcaraz, ed.], he is really an amazing guy, and he is very strong on the court. I have seen how he has grown compared to the training we shared in the past in previous seasons. The relationship between him and his coach Ferrero is wonderful. Everything Juan Carlos says is a valuable lesson for Carlitos every time, and he immediately tries to put it into practice.”
He then analyzed the Murcia talent’s improvements, making an illustrious comparison: “Compared to a year ago he is much more powerful and you can see that he is working on developing his points to have as a goal on the court the immediate projection to the forehand winner. In a way he reminds me a lot of Rafa [Nadal, ed.] It’s difficult for him to drop in the rankings in 2023. It’s definitely going to be a season of adjustment and settling in for him, but I’m sure he’ll stay at the top because he’s so skilled both mentally and physically. It’s really scary, whether it’s clay or concrete.”
Finally, he concluded by taking stock of his difficult season, without setting any goals for the one to come: “I do not set goals in âtermini of ranking for 2023. I just want to give it my all and win as many matches as I can, as many as I can bring home. For me, playing in Challengers again after a tennis life lived in the top circuit was very difficult to accept. I suffered it so much on a psychological level the descent in the rankings. But then I realized that I would have to approach each challenge with the right attitude if I wanted to try to improve myself again. In the end, I am very happy with how I ended the worst year of my tennis life.”
