Future at Red Bull as the “new” Helmut Marko? Sebastian Vettel’s answer
A possible, resounding return almost a decade after the farewell.
Sebastian Vettel is preparing to spend his first season without Formula 1 since back in 2007, after deciding on his own retirement from competition. However, the now former Aston Martin driver, who raced for Ferrari between 2015 and 2020, could now start again from where he left off back in 2014. That is, from Red Bull.
The suggestion had arisen from a statement by Helmut Marko, who had identified him as his possible successor at Red Bull. And in the meantime, the German driver, who won his four world titles between 2010 and 2013 with the Anglo-Austrian team, has not ruled out that this could be a solution for his professional future.
“Helmut Marko played a key role in my success,” Vettel said in an interview with the British ‘Sky Sports News’. Things were not always easy, but that is also his job. He could not always say nice things, given also his great honesty and sincerity. But in Red Bull we spent many beautiful and unforgettable moments. And even if everything flows, reliving the good times would certainly make me happy.”
“On the other hand, though, for me Formula 1 will be completely different from the past from now on. And if it happens, so many things will change,” Vettel added about a possible management or advisory role for Red Bull.
“I, after all, am almost 80 years old. And so one day it might be Vettel who will take my place,” had been Helmut Marko’s statements.
