Olimpia Milano, skips challenge with Fenerbahce: the announcement
A tragedy in the face of which even sports will stop.
Olimpia Milano and more generally Euroleague come to a halt. The meneghina team was scheduled to travel to Turkey on Friday for its next continental appointment. The game, however, has been postponed until a later date due to the devastating earthquake that struck the country.
“The Round 24 match of the EuroLeague regular season between Fenerbahce Istanbul and EA7 Emporio Armani Milano, which was supposed to be played on Friday, Feb. 10,” the club wrote in an official note, “has been suspended following the Turkish government’s cancellation of all sports competitions until further notice due to the earthquake tremors that struck the country earlier today. The match between Anadolu Efes Istanbul and Real Madrid, scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 9, has also been suspended, of course.”
“Euroleague Basketball,” Olimpia Milano’s website further reads, “will evaluate with the teams concerned the best possible options to reschedule the games according to the available dates. Further information will be communicated in the coming days.”
“The Euroleague Basketball family is deeply saddened by the tragedy in Turkey and neighboring countries and wishes to express its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to all those affected by the ongoing tragedy,” is the conclusion of Olimpia’s statement.
