Ferrari vs. Red Bull: Max Verstappen has hope
The world champion looks back to Maranello.
Max Verstappen reiterates that he no longer feels the rivalry with Mercedes as deeply as he did in 2021, but wants to include Ferrari and even McLaren on the roster of the most formidable opponents. He said this in no uncertain terms in an interview with ‘CNN’ about Red Bull’s prospects for the 2023 championship.
“I don’t feel particularly involved in a rivalry between Red Bull and Mercedes. There are other competitors on the track that are just as big, and I’m referring in particular to Ferrari and McLaren,” Verstappen explained to the important American media outlet. “My hope is to get to a day when we will all compete for the title. And I also say this because Formula 1 itself wants it and needs it.”
Along the same lines had been other statements by the Red Bull champion to the Spaniards of ‘AS’. “I hope Ferrari continues to be a fearsome rival for us. We are talking about an incredible stable, which has very good professionals. In particular they have changed a figure, after having set the course anyway. And I expect them to grow both on the single-seater front and on the engine front,” Verstappen said.
