Sofia Goggia sends a message to her opponents
In Méribel Sofia Goggia sent a clear message to her rivals: the Bergamasque was simply perfect in the last round of the women’s downhill at the World Championships.
Goggia, beyond the convincing time of 1’28”31, with which she dominated as she did in the first training run, put on display a very solid skiing on the Roc de Fer, even in sections that for characteristics better suited to her opponents.
Second was Austria’s Mirjam Puchner, third place of the day for Norway’s Kajsa Lie, exactly half a second behind Goggia, ahead of compatriot Ragnhild Mowinckel (+ 0”58) and Ticino’s Lara Gut-Behrami, fifth at 0”66.
At home in Italy, signs of growth from Laura Pirovano, 15th at 1”34: the 25-year-old financier from Madonna di Campiglio seemed much more at ease on the Roc De Fer, putting behind her – with two hundredths of a margin – Nicol Delago, discrete along the course with some small smears on the most technical section. Elena Curtoni finished in 21st place, 1”74 behind Goggia, following a spike.
