Blue wins, with class, the first set
It took him a full 2’47” to win the match and thus gain a pass to the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament in Rio de Janeiro. Alcaraz beat Fognini at the end of a real marathon.
Great performance by the seasoned Italian. In the first set, Fognini dispensed classy strokes and won 7-5. The former world number 1’s reaction is vehement but Fognini struggles. In the end, the Spaniard wins 6-2, 6-4 and brings home a very important but also painful victory. In the next round, Alcaraz will face Lajovic. His goal is clear: to win the tournament to put pressure on current world No. 1 Djokovic.
