Virtus Bologna beats Baskonia, now Sergio Scariolo believes in it
A crucial victory, bringing the playoff goal closer again.
Virtus Bologna prevailed over Baskonia in the Euroleague, with a not easy 88-83 win that brings the Emilians closer to the playoffs. A goal still to be built, but one that coach Sergio Scariolo admitted is at the center of the team’s attentions.
“On paper, we are not off to get into the top eight of the Euroleague,” Scariolo admitted in a press conference. “Getting there, however, would be a dream and would give us a chance to gain further experience at those levels. We are almost in March and we are still in the running despite all the injuries, proof of our solidity in Europe.”
“We are performing almost at our best, but to improve further we need everyone to be well,” Scariolo noted. “We will fight game after game and aim for the playoffs, but we don’t want to delude anyone. Tonight Belinelli’s performance was excellent on offense, less so on defense but that’s the game of strategies. With him and Abass we have a good package, he is special and he recovered great.”
Not missing a reference to the Italian Cup. “That was a disappointment, but not a failure. Failures are others, in Turin we fought until the end,” Scariolo explained.
