Marcell Jacobs, stellar duel in Paris.
Marcell Jacobs in Paris
Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs has been announced to start in another leg of the Wanda Diamond League. In Paris on June 9, the Italian will be competing in the 100 meters for an unprecedented challenge against Noah Lyles of the United States, a two-time world champion in the 200 who has a total of 18 wins and five trophies won on the world’s top circuit in his career.
The Gold Flames sprinter will arrive in Paris after running in the two Diamond League stops in Rabat on May 28 and in Florence on June 2 at the Pietro Mennea Golden Gala, where he will find 100-meter world champion Fred Kerley. At the Charléty Stadium will be the first time for Jacobs competing in the French capital that will host the Olympic Games next year, in that case at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, where he will try to confirm his gold medal status after his extraordinary Tokyo triumph in 2021. Other world speed bigwigs such as Jamaican Yohan Blake, Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo and Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala are among the opponents to face in the Paris meeting. On that occasion the Italian 4×100 relay team will also return to the track for a new competitive effort after last weekend’s season debut with 38.38 in Florence.
