Conference League, Fiorentina: Italiano lapidary on Castrovilli’s condition
Gaetano Castrovilli does not recover: no conference league final
Despite efforts to recover from injury, Gaetano Castrovilli will not be able to help out on the Fiorentina pitch in the Conference League final, which the Viola will play against West Ham in Prague on Wednesday night.
Announcing the number 10’s absence is Vincenzo Italiano, in the press conference presenting the final act of the third European competition: “Gaetano had this contusion,” he explained, “he has not recovered to the maximum and so we are sorry but he will not play.
However, the Gigliati coach is confident that he can give Fiorentina its second top European trophy, after the Cup Winners’ Cup won in 1961 (victory in the double final against Rangers). There are three other international trophies on the purple palmarès: the only Grasshoppers Cup (1957), a Mitropa Cup (1966) and an Italian-English League Cup (1975).
