New Ferrari disaster, Charles Leclerc furious with the race wall
Charles Leclerc is increasingly furious with Ferrari’s pit wall strategies, which cost him a mediocre 11th place in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix at the Montreal circuit. The Monegasque wanted to fit dry tires when it was not raining during Q2, but the team left him on the track with intermediates.
“It wasn’t difficult to read the situation in Q2, the track was drying quickly, I was telling the engineers that we had to mount the dry tires, you could see it already on the launch lap,” Leclerc told Sky Sports microphones. “I don’t know why we stayed on the intermediate tires when the track was dry, while then we mounted the slicks when it started raining again. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened with the team, and I don’t understand why.”
Carlos Sainz finished eighth but is under investigation for obstructing Alpine’s Frenchman Pierre Gasly, who signaled him in a rather excited team radio, plus the Spaniard is disappointed in turn for “a bit of bad luck in qualifying with the red flag, I didn’t want to make a mistake like in Free 3. The penalty? I have to review the images, we were overtaking each other with Tsunoda, I didn’t want to hinder Gasly, it wasn’t easy that situation but it also happened to me to be hindered and I didn’t shout on the radio…”
