“Max Verstappen on Senna’s level, more than Schumacher”: shock opinion
A series of comparisons destined for discussion.
Max Verstappen on the level of Ayrton Senna, but superior to Lewis Hamilton and especially Michael Schumacher. This is the opinion of Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s much listened to adviser and above all always the main sponsor of the Dutch driver, but also of former McLaren and Ferrari driver Gerhard Berger. Their ranking of the best of all time in Formula 1, however, seems destined to cause no small amount of discussion.
“Max is on the same level as Ayrton Senna, on a sporting level,” Marko told the microphones of ‘Auto Motor und Sport.’ Senna had special moments, Verstappen is now showing them in turn. So I think he is the only driver ever who deserves these comparisons to Ayrton.”
More unexpected were the similar statements from Berger, who likewise with Schumacher shared Formula 1 tracks for more than six seasons. “I remember when Michael appeared out of nowhere on the track. Ayrton looked at me in a way that made me realize how dangerous it would be for us,” the former Ferrari number 28 revealed to ‘Sport1.’ Then that was it, so he and Hamilton deserve at least the comparison. But Verstappen, I make it clear, is sportingly on Senna’s level.”
