The Mameli anthem could be heard on the first day of the Paralympic World Cup in Warsaw: credit to Rossana Pasquino, gold medalist in women’s saber B. Second victory in the last three competitions two months after her laurel in Pisa.

As number two in the rankings, Rossana entered the round of 16 with a 15-3 victory over Greece’s Loufaki. In the quarterfinals she then got the better of Korea’s Cho with a score of 15-9. The Gold Flames athlete in the semifinals beat Thailand’s Jana 15-11. In the final match, a fantastic 15-8 victory against the number 1 ranking, Georgian Khetsuriani 15-8 that made Pasquino rejoice, who also wins a crucial victory in key Paris 2024. A success that also allows her to move closer to the top of the world rankings and gives her confidence for the World Championships in Terni next October. In the same competition stop in the round of 16 for Julia Anna Markowska, stopped by Korea’s Cho 15-12 and ranked 10th.

Leonardo Rigo’s day was tinged with bronze. The Zinella Scherma San Lazzaro athlete took third place in the men’s epee category C. A test that saw him win one match in the group stage out of the four contested. In the round of 16 he then beat France’s Turkawka 15-6 to win a place in the top 8. The stop in the quarterfinals came due to China’s Zhong (later a silver medalist) who won the match 13-9. Stop in the round of 16 for Matteo Betti Emanuele Lambertini and Matteo Dei Rossi overcome respectively by English Gilliver 15-6, Egyptians Al-Ogaili 15-10 and Al-Madhkhoori 15-14.

Also one step away from medaling was Loredana Trigilia in women’s saber A. The Gold Flames saberist began her competition in the direct elimination draw with a success in the 32 over France’s Delavoipiere with a clear 15-5. Big win then in the 16-round draw where 15-13 over French Vide number 5 in the world rankings. The stop then came in the quarterfinals against England’s Collis 15-11. Stop in the round of 16 for Andreea Ionela Mogos who won her first match against the Hong Kong athlete 15-3 before being overcome 15-10 by Ukrainian Nataliia Morkvych.

Gianmarco Paolucci and Michele Massa’s performance in the men’s epee category B came to a halt in the 32-man draw. The Lazio athlete was defeated by Poland’s Banach 15-10 while the Marche athlete 15-9 by Brazil’s Jovane Gussone. Matteo Addesso finished in 41st place.
