Mick Doohan pushes Marc Marquez into KTM.
Mick Doohan’s words.
Former Honda champion Mick Doohan spoke to the official MotoGp website about Marc Marquez’s delicate situation: “Marc has a very good relationship with Honda, but it’s a working relationship and in the end it’s a business, and his business is motorcycle racing, so he needs a right office where he can work. And right now Honda is not giving him that.”
“If he were on a KTM, for example, it would be interesting to see what he could do. I wouldn’t say on a Ducati, because they have a lot of riders,” he added.
“I think he has the potential to win another title, but now the years are going by very fast for him,” the Australian later admitted. “Marc has to focus on what he wants to do, and if that means staying with Honda and helping them out of this situation, that’s fine too, as long as Honda puts in the effort. I think they need to get their passion back. They have lost their way a little bit.”
“Honda seems to have fallen a few steps behind and trying to catch up is proving difficult. Whether it is because of Marc’s accident (Jerez 2020) and his long recovery, or something else, the truth is that they are finding it difficult to respond. Honda knows how to recover. Technically they have always been strong, but you have to have a passion for racing. Racing is not just about numbers, it’s about passion,” Doohan concluded.
