Toprak Razgatlioglu moves closer to Alvaro Bautista at Imola
The verdict of the Imola weekend is that the Superbike world championship is still open. Toprak Razgatlioglu has in fact recovered 23 points against Alvaro Bautista and now his gap in the standings when there are five weekends to go is 70 points.
Yesterday, the Ducati Spaniard won race-1 clearly, preceding Yamaha’s Turk and Kawasaki’s Briton Jonathan Rea, then followed by as many as four Italians: Andrea Locatelli, Razgatlioglu’s teammate, Michael Ruben Rinaldi, Bautista’s teammate, Danilo Petrucci on Ducati Spark Racing and Axel Bassani on Ducati Motocorsa Racing.
Razgatlioglu this morning in the Superpole Race burned Bautista at the wire, third Locatelli, fourth Rea, fifth Rinaldi and sixth Bassani. In race-2 the twist: Bautista crashed at Tamburello, then at the first corner, just after starting in the lead, and Razgatlioglu went on to win over a very good Bassani and Rea, fourth Locatelli and fifth Rinaldi.
In the world championship standings Bautista leads with 391 points, Razgatlioglu has 321, and the third, Locatelli, has 208, seven more than Rea.
