Pallacanestro Trieste does not stop on the market. After the signing of Francesco Candussi, the Julian club scored another market coup, acquiring Giancarlo Ferrero.
“Giancarlo Ferrero is the new addition to coach Jamion Christian’s Pallacanestro Trieste. The experienced Piedmontese forward arrives in the red and white after an 8-year marriage with Varese Basketball, where he was able to establish himself as a positive leader on and off the court,” reads the statement published by the red and white club.
“In recent seasons Gianca has been one of the best three-point shooters in Italy,” the analysis of Trieste Basketball General Manager Michael Arcieri. “His ability to completely change the course of a game with a timely three-point shot is amazing. The versatility he brings to the roster, being able to play both wing positions, is invaluable. His well-deserved reputation as a great leader, teammate and ambassador of the game precedes him; his contributions will be seen and felt throughout the environment.”
Giancarlo Ferrero, born in Bra in the province of Cuneo on August 29, 1988, took his first steps in the youth sector of Junior Casale in Casale Monferrato. From 2006 to 2009 he played in the ranks of Valenza, Virtus Siena (winning the Italian Amateur A Cup) and finally Osimo, scoring an average of 20.2 points in the regular season.
From the 2009-2010 season, he returned to Casale’s jersey, reaching first a play-off semifinal and, in the following championship, the club’s first historic promotion to Serie A. After a parenthesis in the then Biancoblù Bologna, in 2012-13 he returned to Junior Casale and then settled in 2013 at Pallacanestro Trapani, where he became captain in the 2014-2015 season. In July 2015 he signed for Pallacanestro Varese, a club of which he would become the undisputed leader over the years, also playing in the FIBA Europe Cup Final Four in 2016.
Over the course of the following seasons he confirmed himself as a solid and reliable player, which earned him in 2017 the appointment as captain of the Lombard team. In terms of on-court performance, his best season remains 2019 2020, in which he averages 7.5 points in the league. Giancarlo wears the blue in the youth categories participating in the 2006 Under 18 European Championship in 2006 and Under 20 in 2008 and then making his debut in the senior national team in 2009 collecting 4 appearances and 28 points on the score sheet.
