World swimming championships, all easy for the Settebello with Canada
After beating France, Italy scrambles Canada
After the uninspiring victory in the opener with France (13-6), Italy was keen to show its true worth in the second match of the group stage against Canada. The Azzurri led by CT Campagna beat, decisively, Canada.
Race addressed from the first minutes of the game. The Settebello dominated far and wide, easily leading 7-0. Canada, a mediocre national team at the water polo level, could do nothing to stem the blue attack. The match ended with a dry 24-6 in favor of the national team, which thus brings home its second consecutive victory at the World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka. CT Campagna is already looking ahead to the near future: “It was a good match for large stretches, but we need to continue and take advantage of these matches that are very useful for confidence in the game. We tried different tactical situations both on defense and offense with the extra man. These are all things that will come in handy in the hot moments, when there will be pressure and then we will have to bring out certain automatisms,” his words to Rai Sport.
Now CT Campagna’s Italy is awaiting China, beaten in the previous round by Canada. As CT Campagna himself reiterated, these group stage matches are important to find the right rhythm ahead of the knockout stage where it will count on making as few mistakes as possible.
