Worlds: blue trio in foil, Alice Volpi triumphs. Arianna Errigo moved

Italy’s stunning hat trick in women’s foil at the ongoing fencing World Championships in Milan. Alice Volpi won the gold medal, beating Arianna Errigo, who returned to the piste after becoming a mother, 15-10 in the final. Third step of the podium for another Italian, Martina Faravetto, and the U.S. Lee Kiefer.

In epee to record the silver medal for Davide Di Veroli, beaten 15-10 in the final by Mate Tamas Koch of Hungary.

Arianna Errigo commented movedly on her silver: “I am so happy. Usually when I lose I’m not happy, but it was a beautiful competition, I was happy to be here. It was really nice and unexpected, now I go to my children.”

“For me it was not easy, third assault was very complicated, for me it is the eighth medal at the World Championships. I thank the coach for giving me confidence,” she told Sky.
