F1, Carlos Sainz no-nonsense about the potential of the SF-23
Carlos Sainz sets goals for second half of season
On the eve of the 12th round of the F1 championship at Spa, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz wanted to take stock of the SF-23’s performance in this first part of the season.
“We all expected the car to be more competitive arrived at this point of the season, but we are all very close and in some weekends you can fight for victory, while in others you end up in eighth position. We have to accept this situation we are in and focus on maximizing the potential of our car between now and the end of the championship,” the Spanish driver began as can be read on “FormulaPassion.”
“Since the beginning of the year, the car has improved on the unpredictability front. But in such a tight F1 all teams develop their own design and if you can’t also improve so much you will more or less stay in the same positions. We have made huge progress in understanding our weaknesses, however, teams like McLaren and Mercedes are doing a great job. Charles and I have already tried several things about the 2024 car, but not the car because it is still developing. Everything we learn from this year’s car will be useful for us to better create next season’s car,” added the former Renault driver.
In conclusion, Carlos Sainz commented on the farewell of Laurent Mekies: “He was a very important figure in Ferrari in the utmost years. I had a very good relationship with him and I think we all appreciate him very much. I think his farewell will not affect the 2024 project. I am sure that the structure we have now works well for the development of next year’s car as well. I also feel that Vasseur is doing what he can to strengthen the team. Overall, the car has been developed well in the wind tunnel.”
