Genoa knocks on Juventus’ door for defender
Genoa bets big on Koni De Winter
After the almost surprise arrival of Morten Thorsby (who, after three years at Sampdoria and a parenthesis at Union Berlin, returns to the Ligurian capital, but on the Rossoblù side), Genoa is aiming to reinforce the backline ahead of the return season in Serie A: the most popular name, according to ‘Sky Sport’ reports, is that of Koni De Winter, a defensive joker owned by Juventus.
De Winter, a 190-cm defender capable of playing as much in the center of the department as at right-back, is back from a season on loan at Empoli, a club in which he played 14 times, all in the league, making his contribution to the salvation of the team coached by Paolo Zanetti.
Born in Antwerp on June 12, 2002, De Winter was the first Belgian player to wear the Juventus jersey, after transferring in 2018 from the youth ranks of Zulte Waregem. In bianconero he boasts 31 appearances and 2 goals with the Under-23 team, in Serie C and in the Italian Cup of the category, while with the first team he counts two appearances, both in the Champions League, at the end of 2021.
The starting jersey entrusted to him on December 8, 2021 in the 1-0 win against Malmo was historic for De Winter, who thanks to the trust placed in him on that occasion by Massimiliano Allegri was the youngest in the club’s history to play as a starter in the Champions League.
