Athletics, Filippo Tortu: two goals for the World Championships
The World Cup is scheduled for Aug. 19-27.
The big goal is getting closer and closer. From August 19 to 27, the World Athletics Championships are scheduled in Budapest. Among the most eagerly awaited protagonists is Tortu, who is back from an excellent run in Molfetta where he finally returned to running as he knows how: “What remains for me of Molfetta? The knowledge that repeating that 20″14 will not be enough to enter the top eight. But also a good boost of confidence. I liked myself especially in the exit of the corners,” his words to the Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Italian wants to do great things in Budapest. Reduced from a period in which he did not particularly shine, he seems to have regained his confidence at just the right time. The goals he wants to pursue in Budapest are clear: “To hit that final that in Eugene, first of the excluded with 20″10, I missed by three thousandths. And to run under 20 seconds for the first time.”
Tortu, class of 1998, knows that making his mark at the World Championships in Budapest would be crucial to his career and his near future. The many aches and pains he has had lately, as was the case with Jacobs, have cast doubt on his qualities, but the Italian has always gone straight ahead and is now aiming to return to toast major successes at the World Championships, the big event of the athletics season and Tortu’s.
