A special Wednesday morning

The Italian women’s national soccer team can do no wrong. After the heavy defeat against Sweden, the Azzurre will be back on the field Wednesday at 9 a.m. (Italian time) for the last match in Group G of the Women’s World Cup: opponent South Africa, which after losing to the Scandinavians (1-2) drew 2-2 with Argentina.

Milena Bertolini’s girls, who currently occupy second place in the grouping, are still in the running to snatch a pass to the round of 16: if they win they are certain of passage to the round, while if they draw they will have to watch the result of the other challenge between Sweden (already qualified) and Argentina.

In case the Swedes, widely favored among others with the South Americans, do not lose, it will be the Azzurri who will go to the knockout stage. Should the Argentines, surprisingly, beat the Scandinavians Italy would not be satisfied with a draw. The two teams would then find themselves paired on 4 points, but rewarding the biancocelesti would be the goal difference, which for Italy was devastated by the very heavy defeat suffered against Sweden: 0-5.
