Community Shield at Arsenal

First title of the season for Arteta’s Arsenal, which beat Pep Guardiola’s all-time champions Manchester City on penalties in the Community Shield final.

Palmer unlocked the result in the 77th minute but in the midst of recovery the Gunners equalized with a deflected shot by Trossard, then getting the better of the penalty shootout thanks to mistakes by De Bruyne and Rodri. Vieira’s conversion finally sealed the triumph for the North London team.

Victory also for Fiorentina, which took the field at 2 p.m. against Nice at St.James’ Park in the second day of the Sela Cup.

Viola took the lead with Jovic on an assist from Sabiri after 18′. Two chances in the 32nd minute with Ikone’ catching the post after an insistent action by the Viola and on the rebound Mandragora sending just high. Schmeichel was decisive on Ikone’ and on a Martinez Quarta right-footed shot from the edge, but the Nice goalkeeper (who in England was the star of Leicester’s Scudetto) had to surrender to Kouame in the 34th minute on the development of a corner.

In the second half, Infantino made his debut in a purple jersey, with the violets still going close to goal with Ikone and a Mandragora left-footed shot that was repelled. In the final great goal by Bouanani for Nice, who from the edge lets off an impassable left that ends under the cross.

Also in the afternoon, Torino took the field, defeated 2-1 by Reims: the Granata goal scored by Diakhon was useless in the final.
