MotoGP: the joy of Aleix Espargaro, and Pecco Bagnaia is satisfied
Here are the statements at the end of the MotoGP class British Grand Prix of Aleix Espargaro, triumphant for the second time in his career with his Aprilia, and Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia, who was in the lead for almost the entire race but with the pistta wet from the rain in the last laps he settled for second place increasing his world leadership.
Aleix Espargaro: “A really crazy race! Even though I was starting back in the grid I felt invincible, one of those days when you realize you can do anything. The bike was outstanding, fast, stable and with a lot of grip. When it started to rain I wanted to try to pass Bagnaia and get away, but I couldn’t because Pecco was going strong even in those conditions. At that point I tried to manage and give it my all on the last lap. I succeeded but I assure you it was not easy, the last laps were very hard, it was very slippery and if you forced for a moment it was really risky.”
Pecco Bagnaia: “The race was complicated, I tried to take the lead so I could control the race and I tried to push, but we mounted the soft on the front and we were at the limit. It was easy to lose the bike with that tire, then when it rained I didn’t know where the limit was. Second place is very good, I am also satisfied because the weekend was not easy. I couldn’t get out too close before turn 14, but I’m still satisfied. I couldn’t do better than that. I accepted second place when I finished the race, I tried to win, I did my best but I was losing too much in acceleration. Aprilia on these tracks manages to be fast on the line, we have to improve. We have to be happy, we did our best and now let’s see in Austria. I didn’t know Bezzecchi was out, I didn’t see him sliding. Today the situation was critical at turn 15 and 6. I was in front and had air, but he didn’t and had a front-lock.”
