Toronto, Lorenzo Musetti routs Nishioka in debut
A decidedly positive debut for Lorenzo Musetti at the Toronto Masters 1000: the Carrara-based tennis player overcame Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka in two sets with a score of 6-4, 6-1 in an hour and a half of play.
The Azzurro shined on serve by netting 11 aces and conceding no breaks, and took full advantage of the bad day of the Japanese world number 45, who committed as many as 29 free errors.
After a balanced start, Musetti definitely took over, closing 6-4 in the first partial and dominating the second set, which was closed in less than half an hour. Musetti in the second round will face the winner of the match between Australia’s Kokkinakis and China’s Zhang.
For Musetti it is the second win in three confrontations with Nishioka, whom he had already beaten at Roland Garros in 2021.
