Jannik Sinner to the quarters without playing. Murray’s frustration
Jannik Sinner qualified for the quarterfinals of the Toronto Masters 1000 without taking the court. His opponent, former world number one Andy Murray, was forced to forfeit shortly before the match due to an abdominal injury.
The Scot expressed all his frustration when speaking to the audience, “I can’t play tonight. I feel I have let the audience down. I’ve rarely been in a situation like this in my career. I feel terrible, it sucks.”
Sinner reached the quarterfinals of an ATP tournament for the 11th time, while this is his eighth career quarterfinal at a Masters 1000.
For the South Tyrolean tennis player there is now the hurdle of Gael Monfils: the French player has eliminated Top 10 Stefanos Tsitsipas as well as Aleksandar Vukic: four previous, Sinner, leads 3-1.
