Leonardo Okeke, the doors of Serie A open.
Varese basketball announces the signing of Leonardo Okeke
Leonardo Okeke will play Serie A basketball for the first time in his career: the young center owned by Olimpia Milano, class of 2003, has in fact been officially transferred on loan to Pallacanestro Varese, thus completing the 2023/24 roster.
“We are extremely happy with this agreement,” Matteo Jemoli, the club’s scouting manager, told the club’s official channels, “which brings to Varese one of the most interesting youngsters on the Italian scene. We are sure that once he completes his recovery path, Leonardo will be an important addition to our team.”
Jemoli, in his words, refers to a bad injury suffered by Okeke during his season played, again on loan from Olimpia, in Badalona: however, Varese decided to bet on him, promising him an important role upon completion of his recovery.
Brother of David, also a basketball player, Leonardo Okeke grew up in College Basket Borgomanero, a club with which he made his senior debut in Serie C Gold. He then wore the undershirts of Oleggio and Monferrato (on loan first from Borgomanero and then from Tortona), while in 2022 he was acquired by Olimpia Milano, which sent him on loan first to the Spanish ACB and then, from next season, to the Italian Serie A.
