World Basketball Championships on Sky
Everything is set for the final phase of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, the men’s basketball world championships, now in its 19th edition and scheduled from August 25 to September 10, to be followed on Sky and streamed on NOW.
At the start of this edition, which will be held in three nations (Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines), 32 national teams, divided in the first phase, from August 25 to 30, into 8 groups of 4 teams each. The top 2 from each group will be admitted to the second phase, also in groups, 4 in all, composed of as many teams, scheduled from August 31 to September 3.
Among the protagonists, also the Italy of CT Gianmarco Pozzecco, engaged in the Philippines and included in Group A with Angola, Dominican Republic and the home national team.
Many matches will be shown on Sky and streaming on NOW, up to 3 matches a day, and with the Azzurri always live, also with post-match studies and in-depth windows on Sky Sport 24.
The “basketball” team” of Sky Sport that will tell the world championship will be composed of Flavio Tranquillo, Geri De Rosa, Andrea Solaini, Francesco Bonfardeci and Paolo Redi at the commentaries, joined in the commentary by Davide Pessina (41 appearances in the Azzurri), Andrea Meneghin (106 games with the’Italy and European champion in 1999) and Matteo Soragna (141 appearances and silver medalist at the 2004 Athens Olympics). Italy’s games will be commented by the unmistakable voices of Tranquillo and Pessina.
Alessandro Mamoli will be, instead, the correspondent in Manila, for interviews, news, curiosities, specials, reportages, especially on the Azzurri, and for the various connections from the Philippine capital, also with Sky Sport 24.
In addition to Italy’s post-games, every day at 6:45 p.m. on Sky Sport 24 a “Studio Mondiali Basket”, which will be hosted by Francesco Bonfardeci and Dalila Setti, will take stock of what happened during the day.
The Italian National Team will make its debut on the parquet of the Philippine Arena in Bocaue on Friday, Aug. 25 at 10 a.m. facing Angola. Sunday, Aug. 27, also at 10 a.m., will be the turn of the Dominican Republic, at Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, which will also host the Azzurri’s closing match of this first phase, the one against the Philippines, which will be played at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29.
