È the first competition after the world gold for Gianmarco Tamberi, champion of everything, ready to return to the platform in the high jump on Thursday in Zurich. The Diamond League starts right away with a meeting that, as always, announces a stellar cast: 14 individual title winners are expected in Budapest and a total of 7 Italian athletes will be at the start.
In Wednesday’s prologue dedicated to the women’s pole vault in the train station it will be Elisa Molinarolo’s turn, ninth at the World Championships in Hungary. At the Letzigrund stadium the next day the Weltklasse show will be staged, again with the jumps to be followed by the Italians: women’s triple jump with Dariya Derkach and Ottavia Cestonaro, eighth and tenth at the World Championships, but also the men’s long jump by European under-20 champion Mattia Furlani, as well as Tamberi’s high jump. On the track, in the races preceding the main program, Italian record holder Davide Re in the 400 meters and Lorenzo Simonelli in the 110 hurdles.
Prominent among the big names are three-time world champion (100-200-4×100) Noah Lyles who will run in the 200 meters, sprint queen Sha’Carri Richardson (100), Mondo Duplantis for another possible attack on the world record in the pole after coming close in Budapest, and Karsten Warholm in the 400 hurdles. An evening not to be missed, live on TV Thursday, Aug. 31 on Rai 3 from 8:10 to 10 p.m. and on Sky Sport Arena from 8 to 10 p.m.
