Paolo Bertolucci recoils on Jannik Sinner’s forfeit

After defending Jannik Sinner&#39s decision to withdraw from the round of 16 of the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000 against Alex De Minaur after finishing his debut match against McDonald at 2:30 a.m., former Italian tennis player Paolo Bertolucci was quick to add to his dose at the microphones of the "Gazzetta dello Sport".

"Jannik Sinner’s withdrawal from the Paris-Bercy tournament after fatigues from a match that began after midnight and ended at 2:37 a.m. è a shameful defeat for the sport. It doesn’t matter that it concerns the best Italian tennis player and therefore involves us more closely, but there canò be no spectacle in an event where people play at times when they should be resting and with the audience in the stands fighting with sleep" began the "Sky Sport" commentator.

"Let’s clear the air of misunderstandings. Sinner was right not to take the court against De Minaur, just 12 hours after his match against McDonald; his health was at stake on the eve of such important appointments as the Nitto ATP Finals and the Davis Cup finals. In addition, his gesture canò have a strong symbolic meaning; we are talking about the world number 4, one of the most followed tennis players on the circuit and with a visibilityà able to move consciences" added Paolo Bertolucci.
