Stefano Tacconi recounts his battle
After finally leaving the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza in San Giovanni Rotondo, a facility where he underwent rehabilitation from June to the end of October after the cerebral aneurysm that struck him last April, Stefano Tacconi spoke about his battle on TV, a guest on the program 'Verissimo' on 'Channel 5'.
"I had a bad time – told the former goalkeeper of, among others, Avellino, Juventus, Genoa and the National Team to host Silvia Toffanin – I thought I was immortal and instead around the corner there was something unexpected. Fortunately, the day it èhappened to me there was my son Andrea with me. I had been feeling very tired for a couple of days because I had been driving alone for more than three thousand kilometers, I had a headache, and I had to expect that something was wrong, but I didn’t think it was something like that".
On the months that followed, Tacconi added: "I missed a few things during this period, such as my niece’s wedding and my daughter’s 18th birthday. Però at least, they have seen me live that è that’s what counts. The most complicated thing è was rehabilitation. Although I was an athlete I had not been in the gym for 25 years and I struggled so much: I had to start all over again, walking and talking".
"They tell me that I have to be careful because é the bleeding can’come back, and è what makes me a little bit’ more afraid, becauseé I never stand still -Tacconi then explained -. The doctor who operated on me had told my wife: ‘I don’t know if I’ll make it to tomorrow morning’. These are strong phrases to hear, è it was hard but she resisted without ever giving up. Now that I am back home she is behind me, taking care of me and watching me…"
