Holger Rune-Stefanos Tsitsipas 2-1

The third singles day of the Nitto ATP Finals 2023 began with a surprise. After a quarter of an hour of play, in fact, Stefanos Tsitsipas retired and left the court, handing the victory to Holger Rune. Of course the Greek was not 100 percent and it was known, yet he himself, two days ago, had said in a conference after the match against Sinner that he was fine physically.

He had not even started badly, getting two break points at the start, on which però he had done well by the Dane, who a little surprised goes to shake his hand on the score of 2-1 in his favor. Rune thus rises to a victory as Djokovic and Sinner, who will face each other tonight. Soon on the court for an’exhibition Hubert Hurkacz and Taylor Fritz. Tsitsipas leaves the Pala Alpitour amid booing from the audience in attendance.

Tsitsipas’ retirement after 3 games gives a big advantage to Rune, who takes the victory by two sets to zero and, above all, saves energy ahead of the last match of the Green Group, which will see him opposing Jannik Sinner, who in the second match will face Novak Djokovic.
