Italy is passionate about Jannik Sinner: many Italians followed the South Tyrolean tennis player's feat on TV. The athlete from San Candido beat world number one Novak Djokovic for the first time in his career in the second match of the Atp Finals, in front of an ecstatic Turin audience.
The feat of Azzurro, the first in the history of Italian tennis to beat the world number one (previously Alcaraz) twice in the same year, è was watched by 2,543,000 viewers on Rai2 (14.6 percent share) and 789,000 on Sky.
Stellar ratings considering the time (the match è ended after midnight) and the weekday. Sky reported a peak of 959 thousand viewers at the end of the second set. This is the second best audience ever for a tennis match on Sky, after the 2021 Wimbledon final between Berrettini and Djokovic.
Sinner on Thursday will play against Holger Rune for access to the semifinals of the Atp Finals, but he has already won the hearts of Italians.
