Alpine in 2024 will goà to replenish the number of automakers participating in the WEC, the world endurance championship.
The French brand announced this morning the lineup of six drivers who will take part in the World Endurance Championship: Frenchmen Nicolas Lapierre, Matthieu Vaxiviere, Charles Milesi and Paul-Loup Chatin (the latter a new arival), Austrian Ferdinand Hasburg and, most importantly, Mick Schumacher.
"For me, a new chapter begins with Alpine in the Hypercar category of the FIA WEC. The car è impressive and I can't wait to start – said the son of the great Michael, who will still retain his role as third driver with Mercedes in Formula 1 -. I grew up with single-seaters, so driving a car with an enclosed cockpit and covered wheels è a great opportunity to hone my driving skills. This year I missed racing, which I have loved doing since I was a kid, and sometimes it was hard to watch other drivers go down the track. Endurance racing is a new challenge for me and I am sure that next year we will share great moments together with Alpine".
Mick Schumacher, who was a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy from 2019 to 2022, won the European Formula 3 championship in 2018 and the FIA Formula 2 championship in 2020, then militated in Formula 1 in 2021 and 2022 with Haas, with his best result being a sixth place in last year’s Austrian Grand Prix. Alpine will race two A424 LMDh model cars and the team will be unveiled on Feb. 7 at a venue yet to be decided.
