Luna Rossa returns to the water, Max Sirena issues challenge
Red Moon returns to the water in Jeddah
Ità will be the Yacht Club of Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia, to host, from November 29 to December 2, the second Preliminary Regatta of the America’s Cup, an appetizer of the one that in 2024 will experience its 37th edition. Also at the starting ribbons will be the Italian challenger, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli.
"It's the first time that the America’s Cup sails in the waters of the Red Sea,‖ explained Max Sirena, skipper and team director, -so we are happy and curious to confront ourselves on a race course that è an absolute novelty for everyone. In keeping with our sporting approach, which aims to rotate sailing team members in order to find the perfect mix for the 37th America’s Cup, we will have a different crew in Jeddah than Vilanova, with several new faces".
They will sail the Saudi waters the AC40s of the defender Emirates Team New Zealand and the five challengers: in addition to Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli there will be Ineos Britannia (UK), Alinghi Red Bull Racing (Switzerland), NYYC American Magic (US) and Orient Express Racing Team (France).
The America's Cup (or America's Cup, as per the original definition) is not only the most coveted trophy in the sailing world but also the oldest among those for which people still compete in any sport: after making all Italians dream between 1999 and 2000, arriving to win the challenger trophy to contest (and lose 5-0) the final against Team New Zealand, Luna Rossa è returned to the highest level in 2021, this time snatching three races from the New Zealanders who però, at a distance, then asserted their strength, winning 7-3.
