16-year-old Flora Tabanelli on World Cup podium in freestyle big air
Flora Tabanelli jumps on the World Cup podium on a Saturday, December 2, that also salutes the fourth place of her brother Miro.
Four years after Silvia Bertagna’s last top-3 (who jumped on the podium on five occasions), it is again the snows of Beijing (China) to give a great Italian result in the Big Air freestyle discipline and the signature è of the 16-year-old from Emilia, author of the third best score in the final won by Swiss Mathilde Gremaud with 175.50 points ahead of English Kirsty Muir (167.25).
Behind them, here is Flora Tabanelli, from Modena class of 2007: the Italian was able to score 160.75 points thanks to the 82.25 score earned in the second run (second heat score) and 78.50 in the third run, results that allowed her to materialize the first podium of her career. It should be mentioned how between late August and early September 2023, Flora Tabanelli was able to seize the junior rainbow title in the specialty as well as the silver in SlopeStyle at the World Youth Championships in Cardrona (New Zealand).
The gap to the pursuers is clear, with the other Swiss Giulia Tanno in fourth place (150.25) followed by Finland’s Anni Kavara (148.25) and Norway’s Mie Sandra (139.75).
Before Flora Tabanelli, only Bertagna had been able to secure a place on the podium of the Big Air World Cup with one success (December 2016), three seconds and one third place.
Only 25 hundredths of a point prevented the Tabanelli family from celebrating a magical day, with Miro – older brother, class of 2004 – slipping to fourth place during the third run, after having dreamed in turn of winning the first podium of his career.
Victory in the men’s event è went to American Alexander Hall with 182 points and a margin of only 0.25 lengths over Canadian Edouard Therriault (181.75) while the sprint for third place smiled in favor of Swiss Andri Ragettli, who with 179.75 points mocked Tabanelli (179.50) and Sweden’s Jesper Tjader (179).
An’excellent first run of 91.50 points and a very good second run of 88.00 still allowed Miro to seize the best result of his career in the highest circuit after debuting only in October among the top10 of Cdm with the eighth place in Chur.
