Rafael Nadal spoke after returning to success against'Austrian Dominic Thiem in two sets. "Today è honestly an exciting and important day for me, after probably one of the most difficult years of my tennis career, no doubt. I had a chance to come back after a year and play in front of a fantastic crowd and, I think, at a very positive level".
"Honestly, the one I spent off the tour è was maybe the worst year of my life – added the Majorcan tennis player – I think I played well enough to be my first singles player. I received thousands of messages during rehabilitation and è it was important and feeling competitive again in front of a public that makes me feel their affection makes me really happy".
For Nadal è it was victory number 1069 of his career, one more than another legend like Ivan Lendl. "Sure, it è nice but it was not the first thing I thought of today. Before the match I was nervous because I didn't know what level I could come back to".
