Australian Open: Jannik Sinner finds Novak Djokovic again, prohibitive draw for Sonego and Berrettini
On the night of Wednesday, Jan. 10 and Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024 è the draw for the Australian Open, the first slam of the new season, was made. Jannik Sinner could meet Novak Djokovic again in a hypothetical semifinal, which, after the double confrontation at the Nitto ATP Finals and the double confrontation in the Davis Cup semifinals, could cross paths for the fifth time in a very few months.
The world No. 4 is expected to make his debut against Dutchman Botic Van de Zandschulp, while in the third round he could cross Argentina's Sebastian Baez. The round of 16 could feature Russian Karen Khachanov, while the quarterfinals could feature world No. 5 Andrey Rublev. Should he qualify in the semifinals, Sinner could face Novak Djokovic.
Prohibitive draw, however, for Matteo Berrettini and Lorenzo Sonego. The Roman tennis player, in his debut, will face world No. 7 Stefanos Tsitsipas, while the Turinese player è expected to challenge Daniel Evans and in case of success in the second round could find Carlos Alcaraz.
Lorenzo Musetti, on the other hand, will make his debut against Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi and in a hypothetical third round he could find one of Matteo Berrettini or Stefanos Tsitsipas. Good draw for Matteo Arnaldi, who will face Australian wild-card Adam Walton, and then cross the winner of the first round between Alex de Minaur and Canadian Milos Raonic.
