Carlos Alcaraz cuts off Jannik Sinner
The words of Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz did not hide in the press conference ahead of his debut at the Australian Open, where he will face French veteran Richard Gasquet, currently number 76 in the world rankings. ""I want to reach the final and I hope to play against Novak Djokovic " admitted the Spaniard, thus cutting off Jannik Sinner, who plays in the same part of the draw as the Serbian champion.
"It would be beautiful of course. Knowing that here almost no one è can beat him è undoubtedly an extra motivationù – added the world number two -. I always want to face the best players in the world to see what è my level".
Alcaraz will not have his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero by his side: "È hard not to be with him. Obviously he travels almost 100 percent of the tournaments. He probably only missed one or two last year. It's going to be hard to go through a big event without him. But I will still have Samuel (López) by my side, who è also a great coach. I trust him 100 percent".
The Murcian cannot explain how Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune have not yet won a Grand Slam title: "Holger is the same age as me". Sinner is only two years olderù. We are the next generation, I don’t know whyé I have won two Slams and they have not".
"We finished the season very late and I prefer to take a vacation and a few days to recover. Of course I prefer to have a very good preseason. We needed almost 4 or 5 weeks of preseason to prepare well for the first Grand Slam this year. We had almost no time to stop and è it was very difficult to play an earlier tournament, so we chose to come straight here" concluded Alcaraz on the decision not to play any tournament before the Australian Slam.
