Jannik Sinner’s fair-play gesture goes around the world
È it has been more than a day but people are still talking about what happened between Jannik Sinner and Jesper De Jong during their second-round match at the Australian Open. The South Tyrolean tennis player, in fact, è been the protagonist not only for the clear victory over the Dutchman, defeated with a triple 6-2, but also for a nice gesture of fair play.
During the third set, on the score of 4-0 in favor of the Blue, with De Jong serving, the ringing of a phone disturbed the Dutchman, who misplayed the first ball. At that point Sinner, with great politeness, invited his opponent to repeat the first. De Jong, however, declined the invitation, hitting the second.
The Italian tennis number one, who is no stranger to such gestures, will face Sebastian Baez, number 29 in the ATP rankings, in the next round of the Australian major. The match will open the program at Margaret Court Arena on Friday, Jan. 19, and is scheduled at 12 noon local time, 2 a.m. Italian time.
