Harsh attack on Turin and Trapani: “Sports values trampled on”
Maiorana tough
Following the unpleasant incidents on Friday night, which were a corollary to the A2 series basketball match between Basket Torino and the Trapani Shark, the president of Lega Nazionale Pallacanestro, lawyer Francesco Maiorana, has decided to intervene with a note with rather harsh contents.
"What happened, before, during and after the game between Basket Torino and Trapani Shark cannotò leave indifferent and forces us to intervene with a note of blame to stigmatize such behavior – we read there -. Specifically, the reference è to the numerous chants of insult, and the banners displayed by an albeit small fringe of the public present at the PalaGianniAsti, against the President and the Sports Director of Trapani. Similarly, we cannot fail to highlight the’improper ethical use of official channels of Trapani Shark for the publication of a post with clearly offensive content towards the opposing team and the President of Basket Torino".
"Although through different modalities and subjects, sports values of absolute excellence such as respect for opponents and people have been seriously trampled upon – Maiorana wrote again. Already at the onset of a criticism deemed out of place, in manners and content, we have taken an active part in dealing with the Presidents of the two Societies, inviting them to a table to discuss and settle any conflict, in the common interest of the basketball Movement we represent and its image. This invitation to date has unfortunately been ignored by the parties, but given the even more negative escalation that is taking place, we hope that a newfound sense of responsibility will induce the companies to reflect and accept the invitation to a meeting that we, as LNP, will certainly renew shortly.
"The fundamental values conveyed by sports must be preserved always and in every way and LNP, within its institutional role, wants and must be a bulwark in defense of the same to confirm them wholeheartedly in every necessary occasion, which we believe has become the current circumstance" concluded Maiorana.
