Madrid gives itself Formula 1: contract for 10 seasons
The first F1 Grand Prix in Madrid will be staged on 2026 or 2027
Madrid wants F1. As reported by Marca, the capital, through a private and not public initiative, is about to get its hands on a stage of the F1 World Championship. The proposal è clear: agreement for as many as 10 seasons with an inducement to the city of about 400 million euros per single GP. "We believe it will be " the best grand prix on the calendar", said Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the private group that is pursuing the project.
It is still not è clear when the first Madrid (or Spain) Grand Prix will be staged. Two dates are speculated: 2026 or 2027. Also becauseè at the moment, Barcelona still has a contract with the F1 management and, therefore, we must first wait for it to be divested.
Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz Sr., fresh Dakar winner and native of Madrid, crosses his fingers: "The site chosen as logistics for the Grand Prix would be perfect (IFEMA, fairgrounds). And for Madrid, knowing this city, it would be fantastic", explained the father of the Ferrari driver. "Moreover, this is a private initiative and no one will be able to say that public money has been used. If this project materializes, I am convinced that it will be a success".
