Australian Open, Carlos Alcaraz makes mea culpa
Carlos Alcaraz tries to explain the knockout against Sascha Zverev
Carlos Alcaraz will be the only one of the Top 4 in the ATP rankings not to compete in the semifinals of the Australian Open: No. 1 Novak Djokovic will face No. 4 Jannik Sinner, No. 3 Daniil Medvedev will face, instead, No. 6 Sascha Zverev, who got the better of the Murcian, somewhat surprisingly, three sets to one.
In the press conference following the match he lost to the German, Alcaraz did not mince words: "Nobody è perfect – said the young Spanish talent -, I am 20 years old and I still have to improve: è normal that I can lose matches, the good thing è that I and my team are aware of it".
"I have to improve and change some things,” Alcaraz then said, making sì mea culpa but declaring himself, in the end, not too worried. “I have to keep training to improve my service. If I want to win more slams I have to perfect several aspects, otherwise it will be very difficult to prevail against big players".
Against Zverev, Alcaraz started very badly, losing the first two sets with partials of 6-1 and 6-3. Much more balanced, however, was the third fraction, which the Murcian of è won in the tie-break, leaving only two points to his opponent in the mini-set that counted for 7-6. The last set, however, saw Zverev return to control and close 6-4.
